Recently during breakfast with a couple of former City Council members one of them related a story about a recent event. Some citizens that he has known for many years called him over and told him that one of the problems with the Aquatic Center operations cost was that we were paying the manager way too much. They claimed that we were paying the manager over $100,000.00 per year. Even after being corrected it was still believed that the pay was that high.
So here are the facts: The Aquatic Center manager is paid less than half of that amount. The entire payroll for Full Time Employees at the Aquatic Center is $99,080.00 per year.
For full disclosure attached is the entire revenue and expense budget for the Aquatic Center for 2017. Hopefully this corrects some of the misinformation that is being circulated. If you have questions please feel encouraged to call or message and we will be happy to provide whatever information is available.

Last year Mack Hollis worked hard on plans to repurpose the two Shiloh Park tennis courts into six outdoor lighted pickleball courts. The Courier reported that the City Council approved the idea. There are players that play every morning at the Hughes Community Center and on Thursday nights at Saint Mary Wellness Fitness Center asking about the status. It would be nice if a Community Activity was created to keep the ever growing pickleball club up to date. We read numerous communities around the River Valley with pickleball courts and grants to grow the sport. See USAPA.org, Facebook and YouTube for updates on the 2.8 million people playing pickleball (2017). Thanks, Dan Ellsworth (USAPA Finance Officer)

I lived in a town previously where every resident had blue recycling cans along w their green trash cans. I think if everyone had a recycling bin that we put out on trash days it would encourage those to recycling and promote Russellville as eco friendly. I had to google reclycing in Russellville in order to find places to TAKE and DROP off my reusable items. This is not okay and I hope that Russellville can improve this issue immediately! Recycling is important and recycling is the future. Such a small thing can impact the world greatly, please take this seriously and create a better system for recycling.

They build the casino in the location mentioned above. The deal would include a very nice convention center, they could build a marina which my neighbor said there used to be one there. This area is right off I-40. I sure you all have talked about this very issue. To me, it would be a win-win for everybody. The casino is going to happen one way or another, why not put it in the best location there is? All the hotels right in that area would like it. It is far enough away from the city center. If it has to be built, putting it on the north side of the interstate would be a smart move. The police may like it as people trying to get away are limited in their escape routes, interstate, and Lake Dardanelle.

Many prominent towns in Arkansas have dog parks: Conway, Fort Smith, Fayetteville, etc. It is my belief that a dog park would be beneficial to many dog owners and a place of community building. Many of Russellville’s younger citizens (such as those who attend Arkansas Tech) live in apartments and are limited in their options of how to let their dogs socialize and get rid of energy. A dog park would be a great solution to this issue.

Little is as disheartening as those nights when a person is having trouble falling asleep. Then just as they are finally about to drift off into slumber, a train rumbles through town blasting their horn loud and proud. Fortunately, the Federal Railroad Administration has procedures in place for Russellville to be designated as a Quiet Zone. This only pertains to their routine traffic, not in emergencies (e.g vehicle/pedestrian on the tracks) or during other required events (e.g. in a train yard, passenger terminal, etc). Quiet hours can be limited to certain hours of the day or 24hrs a day.
Further information can be found by referencing the "Guide to the Quiet Zone Establishment Process" (https://www.fra.dot.gov/Elib/Document/3403).
Slightly more detailed version: "Use of Traffic Channelization Devices at Highway-Rail Grade Crossings" (https://www.fra.dot.gov/Elib/Document/137)

To many people, it seems E Gum is a place to accelerate all the way to hwy 7 from Sandstone Dr. Everyday it seems we hear speeders flying by. There have been a few accidents, I have seen kids on bicycles coming down the hill on Frankfort and just fly through the stop sign. I was told several years ago getting a 2-way into a 4-way is near impossible, I say, to whom would it hurt? More important whom may it save if an accident is prevented because of a 4-way stop

The police chief is documented as saying its an honor to be a racist, of saying rioters lives dont matter, hes en ouraged local vigilanted who are bragging about preparing to fight and protesters who show up, hes spewing racial hate every chance he gets. Hes chomping at the bits to discriminate. This city and all its public servants can have no integrity so long as this openly hateful racist remains in his public position.
The district judges duty is to remove police chiefs for incompetence and discriminatory behavior. The district court judge is the checks and balances to make sure the community doesnt continuously elect racist monsters.
